Spirit of Texas Award
Today at the Texas Sounds International Country Music Awards, I was presented with the Spirit of Texas Award, an honour presented by the committee and the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame.
And somehow, that means my name will now have a place in the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame.
As a country artist from a little town in Ontario, Canada… I don’t even know how to properly explain what an honour that is.
Coming to Texas for this event meant so much to me before I ever won anything. I’ve met incredible artists and musicians from around the world, made new friends, heard some amazing music, and felt genuinely welcomed from the minute I got here. There’s something about this place and these people that feels very familiar to me.
Texas feels a whole lot like home.
And now I get to come back. As part of this award, I’ve been invited to perform at the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame’s annual Induction Ceremony — which is something I’m already having a hard time wrapping my head around.
Thank you to everyone at Texas Sounds, the committee, and the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame for this incredible honour. Thank you for welcoming this Canadian girl into your country music family.
I came here hoping to make some music, meet some good people and represent home well.
I’m leaving with a piece of Texas that I’ll carry with me forever.
